The AP Vertical Team met on August 18-19, 2010 to focus on Building Writing Proficiency. Teachers unpacked the Pre AP premises: all students can perform at rigorous levels and we can prepare every student for higher intellectual engagement by starting the development of skills and aquisition of knowledge as early as possible. Creating a Content-Area Vocabulary resource enabled us to prioritize essential vocabulary from one grade level to the next. We used the VA Standards of Learning as the first building block to developing the strong writing skills necessary for student success on the AP Examination.The Essex Advanced Placement Vertical Team met on August 24-25, 2009.The purpose of this workshop was to make teachers of grades 7-12 aware of what College Board expects from Advanced Placement and Pre Advanced Placement courses. Teachers walked through a sample AP Literature and Composition Exam, tried on a variety of strategies, and stepped out with lessons they modified to fit their learners. Our first steps are reflected here in each grade level page.
